Julia Connor, violinista, disfruta tocar muchos géneros de música— música barroca en instrumentos históricos, obras nuevas por compositores vivos, y música irlandesa. En septiembre de 2018 fue artista en residencia en PLAYA, una organización que explora las intersecciones entre arte, música, y ciencia en Summer Lake, Oregon. Julia es co-fundadora del dúo Room to Spare, un grupo de violin y piano que crea y toca música original inspirada por música clásica, jazz, y tradiciones folclóricas. El dúo lanzará su primer álbum en la primavera de 2019.Julia es graduada del Oberlin College y Conservatorio, donde estudió violin y estudios hispánicos y fue estudiante de Milan Vitek y Marilyn McDonald. Tiene su título de máster del New England Conservatory, donde fue estudiante de Paul Biss.Violinist Julia Connor enjoys performing everything from baroque music on period instruments to new works by living composers to Irish fiddle tunes. Recent highlights include performances at (le) Poisson Rouge and the Metropolitan Museum of Art with the NEXT Festival of Emerging Artists (New York, NY), the Oregon Bach Festival (Eugene, Oregon), Jordan Hall (Boston, MA), and Clare FM radio (County Clare, Ireland). She has also been a fellow at Spoleto Festival USA, the Oregon Bach Festival, American Bach Soloists Academy, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival. She has participated in masterclasses with (among others) Rachel Podger, Tony Arnold, Robert Mealy, and Elizabeth Blumenstock. In September, 2018 she was an artist in residence at PLAYA, an organization which explores intersections between art, music, and science in Summer Lake, Oregon.
Julia is co-founder of the Boston-based violin and piano duo Room to Spare, which creates and performs music that blends classical, jazz, folk, and improvisation. The duo will be releasing their debut album in early 2019.
Julia holds bachelors degrees in violin performance and hispanic studies from the Oberlin College and Conservatory where she was a student of Milan Vitek and Marilyn McDonald. She holds a master’s degree in violin performance from the New England Conservatory of Music, where she was a student of Paul Biss.
